being beaten for speaking out during her marriage. Eventually, 15 women with
similar experiences came together as founding members of the original village.
Now, umoja village is a haven for survivors of domestic abuse and of female

Syracuse
University film students Erica Negrini, Jeanisha Mariah and Cristie Kwon
present and discuss their original documentary about gender discrimination and
sexual harassment/assault at Syracuse University. The film, titled
“Womanifesto,” is intent on bringing focus to the issue of gender inequality
and does so by sharing personal stories of women around campus. By using these
interviews Erica, Jeanisha, and Cristie put the spotlight on the issues of
sexual assault and discrimination, using statistics from theirs and other
universities to back-up their claims.
